The visit by the Captain Of The Lord’s Host
After crossing over the River Jordan, Joshua received a visit from Captain Of The Lord’s Host. He was looking at the City of Jericho when he saw a man standing opposite him. The Angel had a sword in His hand.
Curious, Joshua approached and asked a question,
‘Are you fighting for us or for our adversaries?’
The Angel replied:
‘No, I am fighting for you. I have come now as Captain of the Host of the Lord.’
Joshua 5:13-14a (NASB)
The Captain Of The Lord’s Host told Joshua to remove his shoes
When he heard the response of the Angel, Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshipped.
He said, “Lord, what do you have to say to your servant?”
The captain of the LORD’S host said to Joshua,
“Remove your shoes; for the place that you are standing on is holy.”
This is how we know that Joshua was speaking to God.
Joshua obeyed and removed his shoes.
The Captain Of The Lord’s Host also appeared to Moses and told him to remove his shoes
Moses was looking after his father-in-law’s sheep in a place called Midian. One day, the Angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out that came from a bush.
Amazed, Moses looked to see why the bush did not burn to ashes although it burned with fire.
Moses said, “I will turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.”
When the LORD saw that Moses turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the middle of the bush, and said, “Moses, Moses.”
Moses replied, “Here am I.”
The Lord God said to Moses,
“Don’t come near, remove your shoes, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
The Lord God also said,
“I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”
Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
The Captain Of The Lord’s Host is God and we must worship Him
We see that God is Holy. Whenever He appears, we must acknowledge His Presence and worship Him.
Joshua fell on his face to worship. God also told him and also Moses, to remove their shoes because the Presence of the Lord is holy.
We must always make sure that our lives are pleasing to God. Would you like God to visit you?
Ask Him to do so and listen to what He has to say to you.
